Roshan Abeysundara breaks a 50 year old record - swims to India and back in 28 hours

Sunday, 11 April 2021 - 9:48 Leading Aircraftman Roshan Abeysundara, a promising swimming start from the SLAF set a new world record. Roshan swam from Mannar to Danuskodi, Rameshwaran in India and back, covering a distance of 59.3 Kms. It took him a record 28 hours, 19 minutes and 58 seconds to swim from Thalaimannar to the coast of Danuskodi, Rameshwaran in India. He will enter the Guinness World Record Book as he renewed V.S. Kumar Anandan s 50-year-old record which was set in 1971 by swimming the Palk Strait in 51 hours.  The leading Aircraftman has now conquered the seas a domain of the Navy.  In line with his special effort, Leading Aircraftman Abeysundara called on the Commander of the Air Force, Air Marshal Sudarshana Pathirana today (09 April 2021) before departing for Mannar to embark on his record-breaking mission.
